Ok, sorry for the delay. UPDATE! Aiden is doing great!
The first 6 hours after surgery were miserable. He was inconsolable for 45 minutes after coming out of anesthesia, and because his poor lip was so swollen, he couldn''t latch on to eat. He could only get in an ounce or so at a time, so I was feeding him every hour to try and keep his fluid intake up. But after 6 hours we were over the hump. The swelling went down, he could eat again, and he was even playing with his toys and sticking them right into his mouth! There is no incision or stiches, literally just a pin prick on the underside of his lip. All the surgery was done through a pin hole! By bedtime that night you would have never known that this baby had surgery 12 hours prior...amazing!
Over the course of the next few days we noticed a significant reduction in the size of the hemangioma! The doctor said that''s great news, because you don''t usually see much change in the first surgery. She says that it means that his hemangioma should respond very well to future surgeries and shrink down nicely. Yay!!
Our next surgery is scheduled for six weeks from now. We''re NOT looking forward to it, but feel a little better now that we know that the worst is over in 6 hours and it really works to reduce the hemangioma. Our baby boy is getting his real smile back!
Big thanks to everyone for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. We love you guys!
